Catography.

While I don't have millions of dollars in equipment, I have a window. I know when the time will be beautiful for me to capture my subject, and when it will not. I've mastered when my little man will try to jump, and when he wants another treat. When he's going to come near me and when he wants my attention. That is knowing your model, precision in the work you are going to be shooting, and then capturing a successful shot. Don't make excuses, make mistakes, make hundreds. It creates beautiful work that you will be happy with and you will learn. Shocking right? As people we do not learn unless we utterly fail and allow ourselves to stand back up and try again.

Meet Tobias, 7/7

The last kitten has been named. Quite handsome, don't you think?

Naming the last kitten

Naming an animal is a lot harder than you think. Names come with characteristics, and weeks with someone  is pressure to name them ! So there was a story within each name I gave.

Hazel, because when she first came home with me, she was unsure about her surroundings, she hid beneath her mom whenever she could. Within time and nurture, she became friendly and wanted me to hold her any chance I had. She's also super cute. That could be the main reason.

Scarlett, she is gentle when she wants to be, but wants to be just as tough as her brothers. Sometimes she corners Elijah and wants to play. Before she would get baths she wanted to play in my jewelry box, or my hair accessories. She's a girly girl that breaks rules.

Vasco, the baby of the group loves to find places to explore, or get stuck in, both are great examples. He likes to pick fights with the other kittens and run behind Luna when anything serious gets started.
If your wondering the origin, Vasco is short for Vasco de Gama named after a famous portuguese explorer.

Amerigo, Vasco's more hyper twin also loves to look around and find new places to explore. He doesn't get whiny, actually I haven't heard him talk much at all. He likes to keep to himself and to me.
If you do cuddle him he loves to Purr! Amerigo also has a hidden meaning to, named after Amerigo Vespucci.

Elijah, the dominant out of the bunch is hyper. He would be great with children, and loves to play. I think he's almost grown out of his infamous sour pout. Elijah's also the first to outgrow his baby faze with Luna. He cuddles up at night time.

Izabel is the attention seeker! Loves the spotlight and is not afraid to meet new people. She's not as rowdy as the others and loves a good tummy rub and nap over playing with Elijah or dealing with Vasco.

Tobias is timid and enjoys being with family. He does great around other cats, but doesn't understand why they are much larger than he is. Just assumes they are giants. Once he gets used to you, he will follow you around, I promise.

Luna of course from the black cat in Sailor Moon.  She is the mom out of the group and enjoys affection just as much as the kittens. If she could be the center of it all she would. Very open to cuddles and treats. I could pick her up and carry her around and she loves it.  Definitely give Luna a chance to be your new fur baby.

The Photo Album

These are a few collages I have come up for some of the kittens, feel free to share! Thanks for all the support I appreciate it, every little bit shows support to adopt not shop, and to raise awareness for the Animal Shelters, and how we can play a part in helping animals become adopted.

5 WEEKS

During this time, my group of kittens start the adventure process. They want to explore and roam, but will still come back to their mom, brothers and sisters. They also will start wet food and tiny dry food. I tend to separate the mom and kitten food away from each other for choking precautions. One of my babies really wanted to try to eat the kitty litter, so moving him away every time other than bathroom use has proved effective so far. Interaction is the key in this time, it teaches social behavior around people, as well as other animals. All of the kittens are very friendly, a few are shy, we do have one bully out of the group, he likes to "boop" the other kittens on the head and tackle the others. Well, were working on it.

Best Friend

"It's okay that you're a panda, maybe we can be friends!"

When a bath is "never" just a bath.

Who could put these kittens through all that torture!?!?!

Me sadly.
Baths are important especially, to kittens that are coming from the outdoors. It allows us to attempt to get rid of any parasites or bacteria that they might have been into. Kittens also are very fragile during this time, which means you should be careful not to have their heads go underwater, there face completely dry. Do not use any medicated products or shampoo on a kitten, instead Dawn dish soap. Parasites hate it, and it leaves your baby easy breezy beautiful..fuzzy cat.
I don't know who got the better bath, the cats, or myself. Luna was the largest challenge because she already knows what water is and I found out which I already assumed, hates.
I was completely soaked but the kittens looked very adorable in their bubble baths.

Elijah

"When your mom tells you to eat your vegetables before dessert face"

Luna and the 7 kittens

So this all started when I walked into the the Taylor Animal Shelter. I actually had a leash in my hand, I was going to the back room to pick a few dogs to walk. Only my way I like to stop and look at the cats, quite often playing with them first. That's when I seen the kittens and the mom get up from laying down soon after.
I felt awful. This is common, it's the sudden grief you feel for the animals you see, before it sets in that most are abandoned and left to fend for themselves. The shelter may seem like a tight space from time to time, but these animals don't have to worry about cars, or other dangers without a proper owner. It's the place to find them their forever homes.

I went to work after I got through playing with the kittens and walking a few dogs. The next day it hit me that I have extra room at home, and, even if it were a short stay this would make a difference in these animals lives. So this is when Luna came to my little home, with her little family, of seven.

Some of the questions I've been asked since I've started my chapter of fostering.
Is it hard?  Absolutely.  My morning starts like a normal parents morning. 6-7 am. I go into the kitty room and make sure everyone has been fed. Fill the food dish bowls, the water dish bowls. Then I separate Luna from the kittens. (Mom has to eat to you know) After the cats are done, I make sure the litter and "bathroom" breaks are taken care of. Two kittens have already decided to use the litter box. The other five well.. were working on potty training. The kittens have decided they do not like country or hip-hop as of now. They enjoy jazz and alternative. However, I think the mini one enjoys rock and roll (he/she is a bit rowdy).

When can I adopt a kitten? Adoptions will happen when they are ready. Please don't ask for them early, it's selfish. I wouldn't take away you from your parents, don't ask Luna to do the same with her babies. There will be applications for the mom and kittens around September, there hasn't been a set date. I will update when there is, so will the shelter.

Where did you find them? They were found by people and turned into the Taylor Animal Shelter. None of them are mine, I just happened to stumble upon them, and them upon me.

What made you foster? I couldn't leave them like that, in a cage, alone. I knew I could help so I stepped in an did. I'm busy, I live a serious busy life but I make sure they feel love and affection because they deserve every bit of it.

What are the names? I haven't decided most of them, I will as I go. Names aren't made from cereal boxes, they are by each individuals personality.

Can I help? Sure! Donations for kittens/cats/dogs at the Taylor Animal Shelter Or get a hold of Pound Pals of the Taylor Animal Shelter to help foster animals such as my own.

Taylor Animal Shelter Adoption Event

I started volunteering at the Taylor Animal Shelter May, 2014. During my time helping out at the shelter it's given me confidence in handling animals, and my esteem. The adoption event pulls all the volunteers together to show off the wonderful animals and future best friends for possible adopters.
These are some of the intimate moments captured at the event.

Collaboration Project With Crystal Thornton Photography/Chathura Jayasinghe

We started up the project around 6pm, with the mindset to capture the best light (7pm) as the sun was setting. First we exposed the background and foreground properly and the waiting game began. It was fun to work with our models and run to capture the best photographs possible, all within 20 minutes!
This was our process hope you enjoyed it!
